Purpose of the position: This post will provide professional social work services within the context of an HIV Priority Populations Prevention programme focusing on adolescent girls and young women. This will include screening and assessment, therapeutic social work services, support, referral and supervision of social auxiliary workers within the PP _PREV program. The social worker will also coordinate and facilitate training in structural programmes addressing HIV prevention and gender-based violence, as well as engage with relevant stakeholders with government departments, with partners and in the social work field. (This is a contract position renewable based on funding)
Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / matric • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work • 3 years’ experience in the social work and the HIV field • Registered Social Worker, registered with the SA Council for Social Service Professionals • Accredited relevant post-graduate qualification will be an advantage • Experienced facilitator • Computer literate in MS Office • Proficiency in English and IsiZulu languages • Valid code 08 driver’s license • Clear criminal record

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct mental health screening and risk assessment in order to respond or refer appropriately • Ensure that clients requiring urgent intervention are seen and /or referred timeously • Provide counselling intervention and psychosocial support to clients and programme beneficiaries • Provide counselling services, including follow up sessions as is required on a case by case basis • Provide psychosocial support to clients individually or in groups with regard to mental health, gender-based violence, and personal challenges which affect treatment adherence, risk behaviour and optimal functioning • Train and support auxiliary and lay staff to ensure quality counselling and psychosocial support is provided to clients • To keep accurate and confidential client records according to social work norms and standards and statistics for reporting purposes • Support the programme to identify and plan training in line with programme requirements • Liaise with managers, coordinators, facilitators and other stakeholders to ensure training needs are met and regular training takes place • Coordinate all aspects of training including service providers, venue, and other logistical arrangements • Design, prepare or adapt training materials and present training in a professional manner • Facilitate training and conduct assessment of learners on relevant topics, and attend master training in order to maintain quality of training, for example mental health and structural programmes • Establish working relationships with government departments, NPOs, partners, community stakeholders and others • Attend team meetings and support the programme staff as required • Works within the framework of the ethics and scope of practice of the social work profession
